Relative To Wind
My dear friend, Phoebe Wang wrote a beautiful book which her publisher describes thusly: “a poetic rendering of her decade-long journey of learning to sail and a deep dive into what it means to be a newcomer to an old tradition. From working alongside crewmates in tempestuous conditions to becoming an avid racer and organizer to drafting a wistful love letter to a Wayfarer dinghy—while examining the loose tether between sailing and a creative life—Wang delivers a book for sailors and would-be sailors that is thoughtful and surprising at every tack.”
What her publisher fails to mention, is that I am one of the main characters in the book. It’s honestly a bit of a weird/funny/humbling feeling to be written about, but to be written about in such nice terms by such a talented and beautiful writer is completely gratifying and I think anyone, sailor or not will enjoy this read.
